A Newcomer's Guide to Dancing at Slow Fox
Congratulations on taking the first step into an exciting new world of movement and expression! By enrolling in the Slow Fox Onramp Program, you’ve chosen a custom-designed, mini dance intensive created to meet your immediate dance goals while inspiring long-term progress. This program is your personalized roadmap, featuring one-on-one attention, engaging group classes, and memorable events to boost your journey. Here’s what you can expect and how you can make the most of every step!
The Three Key Components of Your Onramp Program
1. Private Lessons
Private lessons are the heart of the Onramp Program, offering you focused, 45-minute sessions with a dedicated instructor. These sessions are tailored to the dances you want to learn and your specific goals. Think of it like having a personal trainer who hones in on your dance strengths, helps you conquer challenges, and keeps your progress on track.
Pro Tip: To get the most out of your private lessons, aim to schedule them less than a week apart. This consistency helps reinforce new skills and keeps you moving forward!

2. Group Classes
Group classes offer a high-energy, social atmosphere to complement your private lessons. They are perfect for building confidence and exposing you to various dance styles. All green and red classes on the calendar are beginner-friendly, meaning you can jump in even if you’re brand new to that dance! Whether you attend every day or pick and choose based on your interests, the key is to explore new dances and make connections with fellow students.
Need help deciding which classes to try? Ask your instructor or reach out via phone or text. We’re always here to guide you!
3. Events
Events are an exciting part of our studio experience and a great way to put your skills to the test. Whether it’s a recital, themed party, graduation, or even a competition, events offer milestones that keep you motivated. We often say, “a goal without a date is just a dream.” To help you get started, we’re thrilled to offer a 15% discount on all event tickets while you’re in the Onramp Program. Talk to your instructor about which events best suit your dance journey—they have plenty of ideas and can help you choose events that will inspire and excite you!
Tips for Making the Most of Your Onramp Program
Starting something new can feel overwhelming, but we believe dancing is one of the best things you can do for your mind, body, and soul. Here are our top tips for success as you begin your journey:
Tip 1: Complete Your Program in 2 to 4 Weeks
Consistency is key to building skills and confidence quickly. By completing your program within 2 to 4 weeks, you’ll maintain momentum and see noticeable improvements! Specifically, you'll see an increase in your retention of information, surprisingly fast-developing muscle memory, and ultimately a sturdier foundation for your continued dancing.
Tip 2: Take Advantage of Your Free Membership Trial
We offer a free trial membership to complement your Onramp Program. Use it to explore group classes, attend special events, and immerse yourself in the full Slow Fox experience. Membership is an easy way to stay connected to the local dance community.
Tip 3: Don’t Be Afraid to Say Yes to New Things
Dance is about growth and stepping outside your comfort zone. Be open to trying new styles, attending new events, and taking on opportunities you might not have considered before. It’s all part of the journey—and we’re here to support you every step of the way!
Tip 4: Practice Outside of Class
Repetition helps cement new skills, so find moments to practice outside of scheduled lessons or classes. Even five minutes a day of working on footwork, posture, or simple moves can accelerate your progress! Not sure what to pracitce? Ask your instructor if you can take a quick video of a lesson summary.
Tip 5: Connect with Fellow Dancers
Building relationships with other students enriches your journey and keeps you motivated. Take time to chat after classes, attend studio events, and cheer each other on—you’ll gain support, friendship, and inspiration!
